Isabella Whittaker, a junior from the University of Arkansas, ran a record-breaking performance at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, March 15. She recorded a 49.24 second performance to take the 400 metre title at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Her time improved the previous NCAA indoor record of 49.48, set by Britton Wilson in 2023. She is now the second-fastest in the world. Femke Bol of the Netherlands holds the world record at 49.17 seconds.

This performance was a terrific foreshadowing for her upcoming outdoor season.

Georgia athletes Aaliyah Butler and Dejanea Oakley finished in second and third place, clocking 49.97 and 51.14, respectively.
