Jadyn Keeler of Barrie, Ontario, bettered the Canadian U23 record in the women’s 10,000 metres on Friday at the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, CA, on the Cobb Track and Angell Field. It was her first time racing 10 kilometres on the track.

Keeler ran 32:06.70 to improve the previous record by 26 seconds. She is now the eighth fastest Canadian of all time. Andrea Seccafien holds the open record of 31:13.94 from her running in May of 2021. Keeler also set a North Dakota Fighting Hawks school record with the performance. The run is also the 17th fastest in NCAA history. She shattered the school record held by Yonca Kutluk, who set it at 32:57.85 at the Stanford Invitational last year. Keeler’s time currently ranks fifth in the NCAA this season.

Six weeks prior, she set an almost identical 5000m personal best, in terms of performance level, with her 15:28.29 in Boston.

World Athletics credits 1133 points to her 10,000m and 1132 for her 5000m. It is the 23-year-old’s overall 5000m best, but run indoors at the Boston Univ. Track & Tennis Center. These two performances suggest even faster times outdoors later this spring.
