Nate Brannen of Cambridge, Ontario continued his very hot streak today, as he broke the Canadian 1000 metre indoor record in the Boston Last Chance Meet. He smashed Simon Hoogewerf’s record of 2:19.04 by a large margin, which was set in East Rutherford, New Jersey in 1989 with his 2:16.87. Brannen finished second to David Torrance of Los Angeles, California and was edged by 11/100th of a second on the 200 metre, banked Boston indoor track. Earlier this season Brannen broke his own mile record from 2005 when he ran 3:54.22. When asked what he attributes to his successful running of late he said, “Just solid consistent training. This fall I had a set back with an Achilles issue and missed six weeks but since then things have just been progressing very smoothly. I’ve just been letting things happen without trying to push it or overdo things and it has really worked. After each race I’ve felt there was still more in the tank which is a great sign”. He is now set for the IAAF World Indoor Track and Field Championships that will take place March 7th to 9th in Sopot, Poland
Other Canadian performances from this weekend include a win for Melissa Bishop of Ottawa, Ontario who won the 800 metres in Metz, France Saturday, with her seasonal best of 2:02.39. She just missed her indoor best of 2:02.09 set in Ottawa in 2012. She will join teammate Brannen in Sopot next weekend. Jessica Smith of North Vancouver was fourth in Metz with her 2:06.13.
Mo Ahmed won both the 3000 metre and 5000 metre races for Wisconsin in the Big 10 Conference meet finishing 8:54.22 and 13:44.32, 
respectively.
Keffri Neal of Surrey, BC won the SEC conference 800 meter in a personal best time. His 1:48.94 is his personal record both indoors and outdoors for this University of Kentucky sophomore. His previous best was 1:49.44. Keffri was fourth at the Pan American Junior Championships in Miramar, Florida in 2011.
Django Lovett of Abbotsford, BC won the Conference high title with his personal best of 2.20m. Django had jumped 2.18 metres in 2011 and taken third position at the World Youth Championships in Bressanone, Italy in 2009. He represented Canada at the World Junior Championships in Moncton, NB in 2010, the NACAC U23 Championships in Irapuato, Mexico in 2012 and the Universiade in Kazan, Russia in 2013.
Finally, Evan Dunfee of Richmond, BC race-walked 20km in Chihuahua, Mexico in 1H23: 31.
