Noah Lyles won the 60-metre indoor or short track race in the time of 6.52 at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on Sunday.

When he finished, he lifted up his shirt which revealed the message “Tyreek could never.”

Terrence Jones and Marcell Jacobs came in second and third respectively after clocking 6.57 sec and 6.60 sec in that same order.

Hill, who won two Georgia state track championships in high school and is considered one of the fastest men in the NFL, said on a podcast in August that he could beat Lyles in a race. Lyles told NBC after the race that he accepted the challenge.

Lyles took the challenge, “When you’re ready to actually put some words down and you’re actually ready to race, see me,” Lyles said. “I’m right here. I ain’t going nowhere. But all I know is, that your football season’s over. You ain’t got no excuse now.”

Hill plays for the Miami Dolphins and is a wide receiver. Having been a track star in the NCAA, Hill said during an interview that he could beat Lyles in a race.

Lyles, a divisive figure in the sport of athletics, already caught the ire of the NBA when he spoke of the NBA Championships at the World Athletics Championships.

The 26-year-old said during a post-meet press conference, “You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head. World champion of what? The United States?”

Team USA lost 113 to 111 during the FIBA semi-finals.

The International Basketball Federation or FIBA World Cup is modelled after the FIFA World Cup of soccer. The tournament starts with 32 counties vying to be the best in the world. NBA players compete in FIBA, four were on Team Germany. The US has won the tournament five times in 18 editions since 1950, not including the 2023 tournament.
