Australian Pat Tiernan broke the Australian and Oceania 10,000m record Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Sound Running Meet in Orange County, CA. He clocked a time of 27:22.55.
Tiernan finished second during the main event, which was the second of two men’s 10,000m races at the meet. American Eric Jenkins won in the new personal best time of 27:22.06. Edward Cheserek finished third in 27:23.38, also his best ever performance.
Reid Buchanan who will be racing in The Marathon Project on Sunday, Dec. 20 finished 13th in the time of 28:07.62. His best to date is 27:58.67 from the 2019 Payton Jordan Invitational. However, he accomplished this time in the middle of a big training week of 122 miles (197 km).
American Rachel Schneider won the women’s faster 10,000m section in a new personal best time of 31:09.79. Eritrean Weini Kelati finished second also with a new personal best of 31:10.08. Not to be outdone Alicia Monson clocked a best of 31:10.84 for third.
Over the two-day event, there were four men’s 5000m races, two 10,000m and two each 5000m and 10,000m women’s races.
