Canada’s fastest active 1500m runner, Hilary Stellingwerff, continues to seek the qualifying standard for the 2015 IAAF World Track and Field Championships that are taking place in Beijing, China, this summer. She is also hoping to be one of the two fastest in the country before the Canadian Track and Field Championships take place starting July 2nd. They go to July 5th. The championships are one of three major meets taking place in Edmonton, dubbed TrackTown, Canada, this summer.
Stellingwerff is a 2012 London Olympian who owns a personal best time of 4:05.08. She is coming back post-pregnancy and is starting to round into form. She will need to run at least as fast as 4:06.00 to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and 4:06.50 for the Beijing Worlds. There is also a mile equivalent (1609m) of 4:25.20 for worlds.
“My goal for my next few races is simply to run as fast as possible and hope it’s enough to secure a spot on the Pan Am team in the 1500m. The women’s 1500m is very competitive right now, but I can only control how fast I run and try to be one of the top two in Canada by June 14. Nationals will be about getting back on the podium for me,” shared Stellingwerff.
