Although the choice is difficult and all athletes are worthy of being on the list, Athletics Illustrated chooses Melissa Bishop, but don’t let that prejudice your vote.
With the Lou Marsh Trophy set to be awarded on Tuesday CBCSports.ca will reveal their own choice for Canada’s athlete of the year later this week:

Shawn Barber (pole vault)

Derek Drouin (high jump)

Brooke Henderson (golf)

Mikael Kingsbury (moguls skiing)
- won gold at world championships in dual moguls

- won fourth straight World Cup moguls season title

Russell Martin (baseball)
- helped Toronto Blue Jays reach, and win, first post-season series since 1993
- hit 23 home runs in regular season
Kia Nurse (basketball)
- scored 33 points to lead Canada to victory in Pan Am gold-medal game
- MVP of Olympic qualifying tournament, led Canada with 20 points in gold-medal game
Carey Price (hockey)
- won Hart Trophy as NHL’s most valuable player
- won Vezina Trophy as NHL’s top goaltender
Brianne Theisen-Eaton (heptathlon)
- won silver at world track and field championships
- won bronze in 4x400m at Pan Am Games
Damian Warner (decathlon)
- won silver at world track and field championships while setting Canadian record
- won gold at Pan Am Games while setting Canadian record (broke it later at world championships)
Andrew Wiggins (basketball)
- won NBA’s rookie of the year award after averaging 16.9 points per game
- averaging more than 20 points in second NBA season
