Kibiwott Kandie, the Kenyan distance phenom, was charged in 2025 by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for failing to submit a sample. The AIU referred to the charge as Evading, Refusing, or Failing to Submit to Sample Collection by an Athlete.

The AIU has now issued an additional Notice of Charge to Kandie, which is a violation of Tampering or Attempted Tampering with Doping Control.

The former world half-marathon record holder, now age 29, won the Valencia Half Marathon in a world record time of 57:32. He knocked 29 seconds from the previous record of 58:01 set by fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor in 2019.

A year later, he earned a silver medal during the 2020 Gdynia World Half Marathon Championships, clocking 58:54. The following year, Kandie picked up a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games in the 10,000m event. That same year, he set his personal best in the distance at 26:50, but the half-marathon remains his best event.

Kandie raced very little in 2025 after placing sixth in the Kenyan Cross Country Championships.

More to come of this.
