Kenya’s Patrick Kipngeno proved his dominance once again, securing his second victory at the 2026 Broken Arrow Skyrace Ascent. The 2024 champion reclaimed the top spot against a deeply competitive international field.

Following his win, the two-time World Mountain Running uphill champion broke down his performance, noting how he leaned on his championship pedigree to stay strong during the race’s critical stages. Kipngeno also discussed the depth of this year’s field and his quick-turnaround strategy to prepare for the gruelling 23k event just 48 hours away.

The 33-year-old owns a half-marathon best of 1:02:42 from 2015. The win is a great birthday gift as he celebrates on June 18.

The Ascent is a featured event on the World Mountain Running Association World Cup circuit and is held under the International Technical Rules of World Athletics.

In this interview, Kipngeno talks about how he told himself that he was a two-time world champion at the uphill and should race strongly, racing with teammate Philemon Kiriago, and what he’s going to do to be ready to race the 23k on Sunday.
