Dickson Kimeli Cheruiyot from Kenya and Yamile Herrera from Mexico are the latest athletes to be suspended for doping by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). The notice was published on June 23.
Yamile Herrera
Yamile Herrera has been suspended for three years. The suspension started on June 3, 2026. It was originally announced on July 8 that she was provisionally suspended.
The 26-year-old sprinter tested positive for the presence or use of oxandrolone. Results are now disqualified from May 2 to June 3, 2026. She had tested positive on May 20, 2026, at the World Anti-Doping Agency’s accredited lab in Paris, France. Herrera received a one-year reduction by early admission, saving the costly expense of fighting the charges for both parties.

Her personal bests over the 100 metre and 200 metre sprints are 11.55 and 23.60, respectively. She ran both of those times on April 4th in Apizaco, Mexico.
Oxandrolone is a synthetic (man-made) anabolic steroid derived from testosterone. It is primarily prescribed to promote weight gain and prevent muscle wasting caused by severe trauma, major surgery, chronic infections, or prolonged corticosteroid use, as well as to relieve bone pain associated with osteoporosis.
Dickson Kimeli Cheruiyot
Forty-year-old Dickson Kimeli Cheruiyot from Kenya tested positive for two performance-enhancing substances, epitrenbolone and recombinant EPO. Therefore, he faces a longer suspension than the minimum of four years.
Epitrenbolone is a highly potent synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS). It is primarily known as a major urinary metabolite of trenbolone, a powerful, veterinary-grade anabolic steroid that is used to promote muscle growth and increase appetite in livestock.
The AIU spells his surname as Cheruiyot, while World Athletics lists him as Cheruyot. The former is the more common spelling.
His personal best range from 10K 29:22 to the marathon at 2:13:14, run over a decade prior.
