Klaudia Kazimierska of Poland won the women’s 1500 metre race Saturday during the Brussels Diamond League meet with a powerful, late-race surge.
It was a stacked race with Georgia Hunter-Bell of Great Britain, Jessica Hull of Australia, Nikki Hiltz of the USA, and Dorcus Ewoi of Kenya all in the race.
The pacers took the field out in 61.8 seconds for the first 400m, right on schedule. Hull moved to the front, while Hunter-Bell sat back.
Ewoi hung around second and third place throughout, but it was over that final sprint where not only did Kazimierska take off, but Hull went too and ran the kick out of her legs, while Ewoi rolled by right before the finish line. It was a near photo finish for second and third.
The three finished in 3:54.05, 3:54.72, and 3:54.73, respectively.
Kazimierska set a new meet record, world lead, and national record. For Ewoi, it was a PB.
Hunter Bell finished in 3:56.40, a fourth-place finish. She may have sat back for too long, to be able to kick well enough to compete.
Kazimierska’s dream season
Not only is Kazimierska a Diamond League champion, but the 25-year-old has also recorded personal bests over six different events in 2026 alone.
In addition to her new 1500m best, she has run well over the 800m distance both indoors and outdoors, running 1:58.11 outdoors and 2:00.02 indoors. She has also run the mile national records, clocking 4:17.90 outdoors and 4:21.36 indoors. Kazimierska now holds both the indoor and outdoor national 1500m records with today’s run plus a 4:01.78 from the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston in January.
Kazimierska has raced 21 times this year over a period of just over eight months. She has raced 123 times over six seasons. Any athlete will tell you that consistency in training and racing is key to development.
