In 2022, at the Eugene World Athletics Championships, Athletics Illustrated reported that American sprint coach Rana Reider was told to leave Hayward Field over allegations of sexual and emotional abuse.
Reider whose athletes include Canada’s Andre de Grasse and Italy’s Marcell Jacobs has now been ejected from the Paris Olympic Games. Reports have resurfaced or persist of sexual abuse of three former female athletes. They filed a lawsuit in Florida.
1/ This is somewhat unfair for Team 🇨🇦 leaders to be put in this situation by an athlete who appears to have made a questionable personal coach decision. The athlete should also be made accountable but these days athletes are getting too often a free pass https://t.co/EN2vtGJatk

He had been coaching sprinters Marcell Jacobs (Italy) and Andre De Grasse (Canada) at the Olympics in Paris.
“On Sunday, Aug. 4 we learned of new information about the appropriateness of Mr. Reider remaining accredited by Team Canada at the Paris 2024 Games,” the COC wrote. “In discussion with Athletics Canada, it was agreed that Mr. Reider’s accreditation be revoked.”
A counter statement from Reider’s lawyer said he had been, “unjustly stripped of his Olympic coaching credentials. Based on years‑old claims in a lawsuit by former athletes seeking financial gain.”
On Monday, lawyer, Ryan Stevens was told that the COC would be sending an official letter to withdraw his accreditation.
United States Track and Field informed the COC about the suit on Sunday. However, the allegations have been in the media for three years.
The United States Center for SafeSport apparently started an investigation after the allegations were made against him in 2021.
Reider, and his athletes must be certain that Reider is innocent to stay with him since 2021.
More will come of this story as it develops.
