The 2019 Zurich Diamond League meet featured one of the all-time great fields in the men’s 800m distance on Thursday.

Nijel Amos and the pacer Harun Abda took the pace out very fast through the first 200m and to 400m as well. They spread the field into a long single file. At 600m Amos was hanging on, and down the homestretch, as the announcer described in this video, he was “going backwards” and “appears to be running in mud,” while American Donovan Brazier passed three runners over the final 50m to win while staying composed.

Canadian Brandon McBride nearly matched his own Canadian record while finishing third. He set a time of 1:43.20 in July of 2018.
